 CMSA Coaching Symposium - Working with Advanced Goalkeepers

Goalkeepers of Silver Gloves Soccer Academy were invited to participate at the 1st Annual CMSA Coaching Symposium's "Working with Advanced Goalkeepers - on Field" Seminar with Tony Waiters. Tony Waiters is a former England International football goalkeeper and Canadian National Football Team Head Coach (Manager). He was inducted into the Canadian Soccer Hall of Fame as a builder in 2001 and remains a National Staff Coach of US Soccer. Tony Waiters continues to coach children and young adults, helping them pursue their soccer goals and molding players for the future.

Assisting Tony Waiters with this seminar for coaches were:

  • Sean Fleming, the Canadian Soccer Association National Staff Coach and Community Coaching Development including Long Term Player Development Committee in Canada; and
  • Sylvie Béliveau, the Technical Director of the Richelieu Yamaska District and has successfully coached team at all levels from clubs, to college, university, provincial and national levels.

The advanced goalkeeper's demonstrated their technical and tactical skills for the Technical Directors and Coaches attending this on-field seminar. The seminar and drills led by Tony Waiters included:

  • Warm-up & Stretching
  • Variations on simplified drills
  • More advanced drills
    • Positioning techniques to cover more of the goal
    • Angle plays
    • Shooting
    • Defending Crosses
  • Communication, and
  • Key technical, mental and physical aspects of the position

Following the demonstrations, the Goalkeepers received numerous positive feedbacks from Tony, the trainers and other coaches, reinforcing their technical and tactical training through Silver Gloves Soccer Academy. The seminar was excellent and a great experience for the goalkeepers too!

Do not slap the ball  - punch it or catch it! The only saved ball is when it is in your hands or far away from you.

AUGUST GOALKEEPER TRAINING
Goalkeeper training sessions for August will run on Friday August 8 and Sunday August 10 only, followed by one week of rest before the Fall Tune-up Training. For those who have paid for the August goalkeeper training, we will put those payments toward the cost of the Fall Tune-up Training.
 
 
FALL TUNE-UP TRAINING
